It has taken Dhruv Ghanekar a while to get here. But here we are, in 2027, with Dhruv embarking on a solo journey as a producer, singer songwriter and artist. The first of those roles are already familiar territory. For nearly three decades, he has built an impressive career composing and producing music for film and advertising.
Now, on the shoulders of that career, comes his latest pivot: Dhruv Shaukeen.
Why Shaukeen? Why now?
A shaukeen is an aficionado, someone with an appetite for the finer things in life, whether music, art or everything in between. And this nine song album is very much a reflection of that spirit.
Shaukeen dives headfirst into the pop playground of the 80s and 90s, but brings it firmly into the present with contemporary sonics and production. With Dhruv at the helm as producer, singer and songwriter, the album puts his musical personality front and centre.
Across all nine songs, the production is detailed, confident and unapologetically musical. The references are familiar, but the result is not an exercise in nostalgia. This is Dhruv taking the sounds he grew up loving and making them his own.
